Alex Trebek Legendary Jeopardy Host Dies at 80
The entertainment world, and the millions of Jeopardy fans are saddened today with the announcement that long time host Alex Trebek died today. Trebek was 80 years old.
Alex Trebek has been the host of Jeopardy for the last 36 years. In March of last year, he revealed that he had been diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Alex had been very open about his battle with cancer.
Despite his health troubles, Trebek continued to host the show that made him famous and loved by fans around the world. He was on set filming episodes until just days ago on October 29.
The announcement came from the Jeopardy show’s Twitter feed in which they announced Trebek’s passing. “Jeopardy! is saddened to share that Alex Trebek passed away peacefully at home early this morning, surrounded by family and friends.”
“Alex wasn’t just the best ever at what he did,” wrote Ken Jennings – one of the biggest winners of all time on the show.
“He was also a lovely and deeply decent man, and I’m grateful for every minute I got to spend with him.”
During his time hosting Jeopardy, Trebek earned an impressive five Daytime Emmy Awards. Under his direction, the show became one of the most popular and longest running shows in history.
For fans, the show and the Trebek are synonymous. It’s hard to imagine Jeopardy without Alex. As such, Sony Pictures currently has not announced any plans for the show going forward.
Viewers will be able to watch the remaining episodes filmed with Alex through the end of December. Alex Trebek will be sorely missed and remembered well.
