Chelsea FC Spending Big for Success
Over the summer, the Chelsea Football Club spent a substantial amount of money in order to bring in Stamford Bridge superstar players. The likes of Timo Werner, Kai Havertz, Ben Chilwell, Hakim Ziyech, Thiago Silva and Malang Sarr look to be quite promising transfers.
Chelsea reportedly spent about €223.20m in total on these transfers. The changes indicate to many that the organization is making a move toward building a dynasty.
Since Roman Abramovich bought the club back in 2003, he has spent significant amounts to create a competitive team. The goal, of course, to become the dominant team in England and in Europe.
Chelsea last won the Premier League back in 2017 and won the Uefa Champions League once in their history 2012. The latter win was in a thriller final against Bayern Munich.
The club is obsessed with success. As soon as key players of the past decade retired they began making moves to build a strong team which they hope will dominate for the next decade.
In recent years Chelsea has not been competitive against many elite European teams in the Champions League like Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, PSG and Juventus.
Additionally, the gap between Chelsea and teams like Man City and Liverpool has continued to widen. For the last 3 years, they have been unable to compete with them for the title race.
For these reasons, the board decided to make dramatic changes in their players.
The Last time Chelsea FC made so many changes they managed to dominate for about a decade.
Many of the changes bring a lot of youth to the club. As such, if the players perform as hoped, the organization should be in for another long stretch atop the league.
