‘Dune’ remake Official Trailer Debuts on Youtube

Sci-fi fans are buzzing online as the official trailer for the latest remake of Frank Herbert’s Dune is released on YouTube. The film is a remake of the classic sci-fi film from the 1980’s.

For those unfamiliar with the book or the films, is a classic story or a power struggle between those in command of a galactic empire.

At the heart of the story is a planet called Arrakis. It is a key mining site for a rare ‘spice’ element. The spice is the key for interstellar travel and immortality.

Because the planet is essentially a massive desert, the planet is also referred to as Dune.

The original film was released in 1984, and was based on the book series written by Frank Herbert. While the film did not do well in theaters, is has become a classic over time.

Somewhat limited in the movie making technology of its day, the film wasn’t as close to the written story as fans would have liked.

Later, the book was adapted to a limited television series.

The main character is Paul Atreides. He is a prince and part of the Royal Family that rules this part of the universe. But as he soon discovers, there is something much more that connects him to Arrakis and the spice miners.

The inhabitants of the planet are in a rebellion, fighting to save their planet. To help their cause, they await the arrival of a ‘chosen one’ who will lead them to victory.

In the new film, Paul Atreides is played by Timothée Chalamet.

Directing this film is Denis Villeneuve. He was the creative genius behind the camera for the films “Arrival” and “Blade Runner 2049.”

More in keeping with the original story from the book, this film with only cover the first half of the story.

A sequel is reportedly planned to complete the story. Fans can anticipate a release of Dune in late December 2020.
