In a step toward a sense of normalcy in the wake of the pandemic, some movie theaters around the country are beginning to open their doors to welcome movie goers back to the big screen. Today, several movie theaters in the San Diego, CA area are among them.

Reading Cinemas Grossmont and Reading Cinemas Town Square announced earlier this week that they would be opening on September 3rd with showings of Christopher Nolan’s most recent film – Tenet.

Other films now playing include, David Copperfield, Unhinged starring Russell Crowe, and The New Mutants.

As expected, to keep everyone save, the theaters are taking a number of measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

“Reading Cinemas has been working hard to enrich safety protocols and to train our team to abide by federal, state, local and industry guidelines,” said Division Manager Jennifer Deering.

“We are delighted to welcome back the community and want to ensure the safest environment possible for our guests and staff.”

According to theater ownership, all guest and employees with be required to wear masks while in the theater. Additionally, they ask that customers not arrive at the theater more than 30 minutes in advance of showtime. This is to keep from creating crowds waiting outside of the individual theaters within each complex.

Reading Cinemas also suggest that everyone should purchase their movie tickets online to avoid contact with staff and paper tickets.

Leave your cash at home if you decide to venture out for popcorn and a show on the big screen as well. Reading will only be accepting credit cards for payment if you do decide to buy tickets at the theater.

Utilizing advanced seating, which was already becoming very popular at the movies prior to the pandemic, the theater will block seats around each purchase to maintain distance between groups.

As such, seating for each showing will be limited so buy early and plan accordingly.

Taking a page out of the airline’s playbook, workers will be wiping down and disinfecting the high-touch surfaces in the theater between showings.

So they may clean their hands before eating popcorn, guests will be asked to take advantage of hand sanitizers placed strategically throughout as well.
