With the baseball season on hold last month, and kids cooped up because of the Corona Virus, the Seattle Mariners organization hosted a virtual summer camp experience at its home in T-Mobile stadium.

The experience, which started on July 20, was welcome news to fans, and T-Mobile customers, who were also happy to hear of the impending return of free MLB.TV as part of T-Mobile Tuesdays.

Although fans could not go to the stadium in person, the organization put together an interactive experience using a 360-degree HD livestream. Baseball fans were able to tune into the stream and enjoy some great inside views into Mariners practice sessions.

One camera angle provided a view direct from the pitcher’s mound where fans could watch their favorite players tuning up their swing at batting practice.

In another perspective, fans can get views of the stadium as if they were standing in the middle of the ball-field.

The wireless carrier took advantage pandemic situation by putting together the live stream as a way to promote their current 4G and rapidly deploying 5G wireless services.

According to the company, “The livestream puts fans right in the middle of the action, providing a glimpse of how wireless networks will transform sporting events in the future through new and immersive experiences.”

Interested fans can still access the livestream and replays on the Seattle Mariners YouTube channel.

If you are a fan of baseball-related movies the phrase “there’s no crying in baseball” may ring a bell. Tom Hanks uttered the line in the 1992 movie A League of Their Own and it’s been a subject of memes and satire ever since.

Now the 1992 Penny Marshal directed film has been greenlighted as source material for a new Amazon Series according to Joe Otterson of Variety. But, don’t expect a remake of the original movie which starred Geena Davis, Madonna, Rosie O’Donnell, Lori Petty, and Jon Lovitz along with Hanks.

The series creators, Abbi Jacobson and Will Graham are going with new storylines about other players fighting for positions in the women’s baseball league. Jacobson will also star in the series

This is not the first attempt at a TV version of the movie. The film was adapted to TV in 1993 for CBS for one season with one of six filmed episodes never being aired. The remake picked up where the original movie left off with new actors being cast for a majority of the characters.

Vernon Sanders, co-head of television for Amazon Studios, stated that the series will be an expanded look on the stories behind the original film.

“Will and Abbi have taken a classic movie, reimagining it for a new generation with new characters and their own fresh, modern vision on a timeless story of big dreams, friendship, love, and, of course, baseball.”

The original movie revised interest in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL) which began operations in1943 during WWII. The league was started by Phillip K. Wrigley and other MLB owners as a way to help keep professional baseball going while so many players had joined the military.

The AAGPBL ran until 1954 with fifteen teams overall including a fictionalized version of the Rockford Peaches which was the team the Marshal film focused on.
